The four local Chambers of Commerce come together in support of our business communities to welcome the new City Council.
On Wednesday, December 15th the Kanata Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Nepean Chamber of Commerce, the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Orleans Chamber of Commerce, jointly hosted a reception at City Hall with invited guests including the entire City Council.
The Chambers of Commerce are member-based organizations that primarily focus on supporting and promoting the business community. This event was an opportunity for the Chambers to introduce themselves to the new members of Council, as well as to reaffirm relationships with returning councillors and each other. While each Chamber has its own local issues that are unique to their particular areas, it is acknowledged that local government is more receptive to a streamline unified approach to certain issues. As the voice of business, the four chambers have formed a working group that now has regular meetings with City representatives and they are working together on economic development issues. The four voices will endeavour to speak in unity on issues that affect the entire city and are of benefit to the business community.
The reception served as a great opportunity to congratulate and welcome the new council. Mayor Jim Watson addressed the crowd and spoke of the vital contribution that business makes in creating sustainable communities across our city. Moving forward the Chambers will all benefit from the sharing of ideas and possibly working together on future projects.
The Kanata Chamber was represented by President Megan Cornell; Nepean Chamber by President Virginia Boro; Ottawa Chamber by President Tim Redpath and Orleans Chamber by Chair David Chadala. Other key chamber staff and Board members were also in attendance.
Now that the reception is over, it is down to business, for the benefit of all our communities.
